Cadmium sulphide (CdS)

thin film s play a very important role in photovoltaic technology and optoelectronic devices. 

CdS films are regarded as a promising material for heterojunction HIT -thin film solar cells such as

cadmium telluride (CdTe),

copper indium diselenide (CuInSe2),

indium phosphide (InP) and

copper sulphide (Cu2S).

These heterojunction thin-film solar cells operate in the efficiency range of 14% to 16%. Due to the high material cost involved there is a major drive toward developing polycrystalline compound semiconductors, especially in the form of thin films. Chemical bath deposition (CBD) is one of the conventional methods adopted to produce chalcogenide thin-film solar cells using CdS n-type layers.
